Ham and Sweet Potatoes Au Gratin
If you like Au gratin potatoes then you must try my version using ham and sweet potatoes. I use smoked cheese and red pepper flakes to kick up the heat a little. Adding a little honey to brings out the sweetness of the ham and sweet potatoes. This recipe is so warm and comforting it will easily pair well with all of your favorite fall roasts.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a sauce pan over medium heat, melt the butter and add in the garlic and onions. Cook for 5 minutes. Stir in the flour and chili flakes and cook for 1 minute. Add the heavy whipping cream and chicken broth and some salt and pepper to taste and stir.
Grease a small baking dish and layer 1/2 of the sweet potato slices evenly into dish followed by a layer of diced ham. Then pour half of the cream sauce over the potatoes and ham and sprinkle half of the shredded gouda over the cream. Next drizzle a small amount of honey evenly over the cheese. Repeat with the second layer of potatoes, ham, cream sauce, cheese and honey.
Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 40 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes. Allow to cool slightly and enjoy!
