Tempeh Walnut Burgers

If you are looking for a good vegan burger that is pretty easy to make, have I got the recipe for you. Tempeh walnut burgers. All you need to do is buzz the ingredients together in a food processor, shape and bake.  That’s it!  I like the combination of tempeh and walnuts because it is high in protein so you are actually getting some substance and balance with your burger.  Top it off with veggies and the usual fixings, and your favorite bun, and you have a meal!  These burgers contain heart healthy fats, not artery clogging ones.  Also, they are gluten free if you use gluten free oats, and a gluten free bun (both of which are sold at Fresh and Natural Foods).  Just because you don’t eat meat, does not mean you can’t enjoy a burger this 4th of July!

To make the burgers, add the tempeh to your food processor along with all other ingredients but the oats. Pulse until everything is blended but not completely smooth, then add the oats and pulse again (if it seems too sticky add some more oats).Preheat the oven to 375F degrees, and line a sheet pan with parchment. Shape into 6 burgers (they will be a little sticky) and set on the pan. Place in the oven. Bake for 20-30 minutes until set.
