EWG Dirty Dozen™
The EWG (Environmental Working Group) created a list of the most toxic fruits and vegetables based on a extensive study. The fruits and vegetables on the Dirty Dozen™ list, when conventionally grown, tested positive for at least 47 different chemicals, with some testing positive for as many as 67. For produce on the “dirty” list, you should definitely go organic — unless you relish the idea of consuming a chemical cocktail. The list in order includes:
- apples
- celery
- sweet bell peppers
- peaches
- strawberries
- nectarines-imported
- grapes
- spinach
- lettuce
- cucumbers
- blueberries-domestic
- potatoes
Plus…
- green beans
- kale/greens
The EWG offers a great reference guide for on-the-go.
